Adverse weather letter to parents

Dear Parents,

I am writing to communicate our protocols in the event of adverse weather. The Academy will close if the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff is cmpromised. This could be: if the building is not safe, routes home are threatened, ie bridges closed or routes flooded, or we are unable to provide adequate ratios for the supervision of pupils.

These are our protocols if we need to close the Academy:

Closure before the start of the school day due to severe weather
If the decision is made to not open,  we will inform you in the following ways:

  1. A message will appear on the Academy’s website by 7:30 am each day (although we will aim to be sooner) and we will update the website with information, as far as possible, during the day.
  2. A Class Dojo message and email via Arbor (please check spam) will be sent to all parents, whose details we have and that are up to date, by 7.30am. Please let us have your up to date contact details if you have not already done so.
  3. Parents can contact Premier directly for information about Breakfast Club.

If the decision to close school before the start of the day is made, arrangements for remote learning will be put in place as follows:  through the Purple Mash App

Closure during the school day:
Our priority is to keep all students calm and safe, therefore, please follow these instructions so we can keep the children calm and reassured that they are safe.

If for any reason weather forces us to close during the school day we will inform you in the following way:

  1. We will put information on our website. Those parents who have given us their email addresses will receive a mail message. This message will direct you to the school website which is where we will put all advice/instructions. This information will also be shared via the Class Dojo App.
  2. Once we have informed you via Dojo, e-mail or on our website, we will ask you to collect your children.
  3. For pupils who need ot be collected by an alternative adult, please contact the office, as usual, to arrange this and provide the adult with the correct password.
  4. If a parent or carer comes to the school to collect their child – as agreed with the school – pupils must sign out. You will need to wait in Reception while we collect your child/ren; please be patient so that we can dismiss all children safely. Alternatively, they will be collected from the classroom doors.
  5. We will stay open for as long as we possibly can and, although there may not be enough teachers to teach lessons, we will provide supervised activities, so that pupils can remain in school while we wait for you to collect.

Everything reasonably possible will be done to ensure pupil’s safety and well-being. If you do not receive information from the Academy to the contrary, please assume that Academy will be open as usual.

In times of adverse weather, pupils are permitted to wear suitable footwear (eg wellington boots, trainers) on the way to and from school but will need to bring their school shoes to change into once in school

Thank you for your support with this.

Signed
